Dozenal numbers are annotated with a subscript z; decimal numbers with a subscript d.
Trice: (1) 1/1000z = 1/1728d of a day, equivalent to 42z = 50d seconds; a trice·duration or tricia·day.
(2) The amount the Earth rotates with respect to the Sun in a trice; 1/1000z = 1/1728d of a turn, equivalent to 12′30″d of arc; a trice·angle or tricia·turn.
Etymology: A slightly archaic word for a brief amount of time, and a pun on dividing the day by a dozen “thrice”.
Point: (1) 1/80z = 1/96d of a day, equivalent to 16z trices or 15d minutes; a point·duration. Equivalent to the modern version of a Chinese 刻 (kè) (“mark” or “notch” on a water-clock).
(2) The amount the Earth rotates with respect to the Sun during a point; 1/80z = 1/96d of a turn, equivalent to 16z trices or 3°45′d of arc; a point·angle.
Etymology: Medieval English word for a quarter of an hour. From Latin punctum, from which we also get “punctual,” an appellation bestowed upon those who make a point of arriving on time to appointments, at least within the correct point.
Bell: (1) 1/40z = 1/48d of a day, equivalent to 30z trices or 30d minutes; a half-hour or quarter-dwell; a bell·duration or uncia·quarterday.
(2) The amount the Earth rotates with respect to the Sun during a bell; 1/40z = 1/48d of a turn, equivalent to 30z trices or 7°30′d of arc; a bell·angle or uncia·quarterturn.
Etymology: From nautical terminology, a “ship’s bell.”
Hour: (1) 1/20z = 1/24d of a day, equivalent to 60z trices or 60d minutes; a half-dwell; an hour·duration or uncia·semiday.
(2) The amount the Earth rotates with respect to the Sun during an hour; 1/20z = 1/24d of a turn, equivalent to 60z trices or 15°d of arc; an hour·angle or uncia·semiturn.
Etymology: From Greek ὥρα “hour; any time or period.”
Dwell: (1) 1/10z = 1/12d of a day, equivalent to 100z trices or 120d minutes; two hours; a dwell·duration or uncia·day.
(2) The amount the Earth rotates with respect to the Sun during a dwell; 1/10z = 1/12d of a turn, equivalent to 100z trices or 30°d of arc; a dwell·angle or uncia·turn.
Etymology: Based on how much time the Sun spends “dwelling” in each “house” during a day, where a house is an astrological term for an uncia·turn sector of the sky relative to the observer; also, a pun on “dual hour”. If anyone focuses their attention on any one subject for an entire dwell, it is fair to say that the are “dwelling” on it.
Theinant: (1) 1/28z = 1/32d of a turn, equivalent to 46z trices or 11°15′d of arc; a theinant·angle. Also called a rhumb.
(2) The time it takes Earth to rotate by one theinant; 1/28z = 1/32d of a day, equivalent to 46z trices or 45d minutes; 3/8 of a dwell or 3/4 of an hour; a theinant·duration.
Etymology: From thei(n)-, the Systematic Numeric Nomenclature digit root for W = 28z = 32d. Derived from Greek θεῖος (or θεϊνός) “divine” based on many ancient sacred associations with “thirty-two” across multiple cultures: number of Hebrew names of God; number of major physical characteristics of the Buddha; number of forms of Ganesha.
Xadrant (/ˈʃæ.drənt/): (1) 1/14z = 1/16d of a turn, equivalent to 90z trices or 22°30′d of arc; a xadrant·angle.
(2) The time it takes Earth to rotate by one xadrant; 1/14z = 1/16d of a day, equivalent to 90z trices or 90d minutes; 3/4 of a dwell or an hour-and-an-half; a xadrant·duration.
Etymology: From xad(r)-, the Systematic Numeric Nomenclature digit root for G = 14z = 16d. Derived from the middle syllable in “hexadecimal,” but also from the Portuguese/Galician word for “chess,” xadrez (/ʃa.ˈdreʃ/), which alludes to a player’s “army” of sixteen pieces, in four “divisions” of four “soldiers” each (two major pieces and their accompanying pawns).
